First off, I would like to wish everyone a happy new year. I’m sure many of you have come up with some new year’s resolutions. It’s a good way to get the new year started on the right foot, but as we all know, many of our resolutions are no longer intact by February. I will not bore you with my new year’s resolutions, but I would like to share a few of my golf goals for 2012.
My first goal is one that I’m sure most golfers make, and that is to play more. This is something we all say as golfers, but I am determined to do this in 2012. There are so many great golf courses in Georgia, which should motivate me to play more than I did last year. I’m not going to make any more excuses because as far as I’m concerned, there aren’t many better ways to spend your day than playing a round of golf. Hopefully by playing more, my scores will improve too.
Probability that goal is completed: 99% (Mother Nature is the only thing that could possibly stop me this year. Actually, it didn’t top 30-degrees today, so maybe that number is a little too high.)
Another goal of mine is to attend a professional golf tournament. I was able to go to the second round of the PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club last year and it was a great experience. You can learn a lot just by watching the pros on the driving range and putting green. It really helps you appreciate how good those guys are. There are plenty of chances for me to check this goal off my list in 2012. The PGA and Nationwide tours have two stops in Georgia; there is one Champions’ Tour event, and I hear there is a pretty good tournament played in Augusta in early April.
Probability that goal is completed: 75% (Only one tournament in Atlanta this year, but still a lot of good choices throughout the state.)
My last golfing goal of 2012 is by far the most ambitious one. It is to record a hole in one. I have never been fortunate enough to write a “1” on my scorecard, but 2012 feels like the year. Sure there is some luck involved, but why not swing for the fences.
Probability that goal is completed: 1% (So you’re saying there’s a chance?)
